West Tennessee Healthcare (WTH) has been a trusted provider of healthcare services for the region for over seven decades. The organization’s roots trace back to 1950 when Jackson-Madison County General Hospital (JMCGH) opened its doors to its first patient. With the area’s population booming during World War II, the demand for a modern hospital became increasingly urgent. In response, the state of Tennessee established the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital District in 1949, bringing together three small community hospitals under one umbrella.
Throughout the years, West Tennessee Healthcare has grown exponentially, evolving into a comprehensive health system. With a network of 90 hospitals and medical centers spread across 19 counties, they provide essential services to more than 500,000 individuals, covering an expansive area of 9,000 square miles.
As a not-for-profit organization, WTH remains steadfast in their commitment to providing care to all, regardless of their ability to pay. They have contributed tens of millions of dollars in free care to low-income patients.
Today, WTH continues to be driven by their unwavering mission to care for all residents of the West Tennessee region. They have expanded their focus on pediatric care through a collaboration with Le Bonheur Hospital, recognizing the importance of specialized services for children. Additionally, they have taken a proactive stance in addressing the needs of cancer patients by establishing the Kirkland Cancer Center, a regional center dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support.
This enhanced eBook features video links and embedded audio quotes from executives, retirees, and key stakeholders who were interviewed during the research for this book.
